What to Expect

Climb Aboard History

Experience the Flight of a Lifetime

Based at Smartt Field in St Charles MO, these beautiful airplanes fly during the summer months (April - mid November). We take our aircraft to different parts of the country so thousands of guests can get up close and personal, and even have the chance to fly in the planes.

All of our warbird rides follow the same format, unless otherwise noted. Please plan on arriving to the facility (or the airport where the planes are visiting) at least one hour before your scheduled flight time.

  • Pre-boarding: 1/2 to 1 hour before take-off; crew/passenger briefing and paperwork
  • Boarding: Passenger placement, seat belt check (5 minutes)
  • Engine start-up/Run-up: Before take off, run-up of engines and taxi to active runway (10 minutes)
  • Flight time (in air): Aerial tour lasting about 25-30 minutes (*times vary for the Stearman; see below)
  • Landing/Taxi/Engine shut down: Safe return back to base and taxi back to the area where you boarded the plane (5 minutes)
  • Disembark: Once the plane is secure and the crew has opened the exit(s)
  • Total Time on Board: Your entire experience is expected to last about 40-45 minutes

Tour Schedule

During the season, rides are available at our home airport (KSET, Smartt Field) when the aircraft are not at other events around the country. Please contact our Ride Coordinator at the information below for the latest aircraft availability.

Of the 9,839 that were manufactured by Grumman Aircraft and General Motors, it is estimated that only 75 to 100 remain. The Avenger participated in every major air-sea battle of World War II between June 1942 and August 1945, and played a significant role in search-and-destroy missions hunting German submarines, proving its worth in both night and daytime assignments. The most famous American to fly an Avenger was George H.W. Bush, later 41st President of the United States, who joined the Navy in 1942 and became the youngest naval aviator ever, at the age of 20, in June 1943.We are very proud to now offer rides!
